Romney/Ryan Face Tattoo Looking Less Awesome in Retrospect 'I'm no hero,' admits Eric Hartsburg
We've written before about the perils of tattooing one's face with commercial signage that could sooner or later become obsolete—making you, like the product or service advertised, an embarrassing relic. Eric Hartsburg did not heed the warnings, however. A few weeks ago, after not reading Nate Silver in The New York Times, the 30-year-old Indiana resident and proud Republican tattooed the right side of his face with the Romney/Ryan logo in exchange for $5,000 from an eBay bidder (presumably a Romney backer). Hartsburg says his wife was shocked by the tattoo, but his 15-year-old son loved it. Both may have been chagrined after Election Night—Hartsburg certainly was. But in an interview with Politico, he retains a certain sense of humor about his uncool predicament. "I'm the guy who has egg all over his face, but instead of egg, it's a big Romney/Ryan tattoo. It's there for life," he says. Still, he claims to not really have any regrets. "I'm a tattoo guy, and it was something fun," he says. "I was trying to make politics fun. I didn't change no lives; I'm no hero. But I shed blood for this campaign, and I'm glad to know that I did all that I could." Hartsburg admits neighbors have been ridiculing him since last Tuesday, although, as a self-described professional wrestler, he's probably handling that fine.
