Nesting birds protect POM suicide billboard
In yet another example of nature defeating man, a POM juice billboard in Boston that came under fire for supposedly trivializing suicide now can't be taken down because a hawk has nested and hatched chicks on it. Wildlife laws protect the nest and the structure it's built on, much to the chagrin of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which took exception to the image of a bottle with a noose around it next to the headline, "Cheat death." There's something beautiful about life beginning anew on top of an ad like that. POM parent company Roll International denies making a verbal agreement with the AFSP not to run the ad, although it did take down a similar billboard in D.C. when people there complained. Despite the grousing, the noose ad has remarkable staying power. We wrote about it way back in 2005.
