Timed to St. Patrick’s Day, Boston College is putting up an interesting Web site today—a searchable database of 31,000 ads that were originally placed in the Boston Pilot newspaper between 1831 and 1921 by Irish immigrants looking to locate loved ones after they became separated in their journeys to America. The site reportedly will go live here after 1 p.m. today. The database is an electronic version of B.C. professor Ruth-Ann M. Harris’ eight-volume set called The Search for Missing Friends: Irish Immigrant Advertisements Placed in the Boston Pilot.
