It’s a good day and a bad day for purveyors of American vice. First, a nutritional study has backed centenarian Irene Goguen’s advice to “Drink beer. I did, and I’m still living.” According to the study, adult men can drink about two 12-ounce beers a day, twice the amount of sugary sodas, without any deleterious effects. (The study, funded by Lipton tea, not surprisingly recommended a higher daily allowance of caffeine as well.) On the other hand, the Washington Post reports that cigarette sales in the U.S.
