'GoldenEye' game rebooted, minus Brosnan
Pierce Brosnan's stint as superspy James Bond probably elicits little more than lukewarm nostalgia from most movie fans, but gamers are still gushing about the N64 version of GoldenEye, one of the most-beloved first-person shooters of all time. Thus, it's no surprise that the game, which sold more than 8 million copies, is getting remade for the Wii. But in a quirky chronological twist, Brosnan's Bond has been replaced by the likeness of actor Daniel Craig, as you can see in the developer-narrated trailer below. It makes sense on a few levels. Craig's secret-agent persona is about as suave as a cinder block to the head, which makes him a questionable Bond but a pretty ideal video-game hero. And I'm sure this was some sort of licensing requirement for the franchise. But still, it's a little sad to see Brosnan scrubbed from one of his greatest legacies. Hopefully he'll still make the cut when Mrs. Doubtfire: Crossdressed to Kill inevitably debuts on the Xbox 360. Via Joystiq.
