If "anonymous sources" were a brand, it wouldn’t be a very popular one. In a recent University of Connecticut poll, 34 percent of respondents agreed "strongly" (and another 19 percent "mildly") with the statement, "News stories that rely on unnamed sources should not be published in the first place." An ABC News/Washington Post poll fielded in May also found considerable distaste for the use of anonymous sources: A bare majority (53 percent) said they generally approve of the practice.
