Designer breaks up with L.A. on 5 billboards
Jon Jackson, a Los Angeles-based designer, is skipping town for a creative-director job at Huge in New York. But first, he's ending it with L.A. properly by placing five breakup billboards around town. The AdiosLA site explains: "Paul Simon never mentioned this. You can slip out the back Jack or you can put up five 10 x 23 foot billboards in your neighborhood. ... Not wanting to string L.A. along, [Jackson] has decided to firmly break it off through a graphic billboard series posted on the famous streets of his first love. Most take Mr. Simon's advice when leaving town, but if you want a city with benefits, you better do more than make a new plan, Stan." The ads will be up through Jan. 15. "Bring a camera and box of tissue," Jackson advises. The AdiosLA site also includes Google Maps integration and iPhone background images. Fun idea, wonderfully executed. Via AgencySpy. UPDATE: Huge tells us it had nothing to do with the stunt, but the agency has decided to cover the costs of the project anyway.
See the three other billboards, as well as a video interview with Jackson, after the jump.
