Are more people really watching CBS News?

Katiecouricpicture_1 The tagline for CBS News' spots promoting Katie Couric's broadcast could benefit from a little truth in advertising. Obviously, the network can get away with saying "More People Are Watching CBS Evening News" if even one person more has tuned into the show than the week before, but even that is debatable, according to the latest Nielsen ratings. What is clear is that people are not watching CBS News more than NBC and ABC, with CBS consistently ranking lower. The deceptive tag —derived from the equally eyebrow-raising, but at least occasionally accurate, "More people get their news from ABC..."—is the equivalent of an automotive tag like "More people are buying Suzuki automobiles."
