America's funniest home virals

Iwantitthatway1God, things are getting confused out there on the media landscape. Now, viral video is making the jump from the Internet to cable with a special on Bravo tonight called “Outrageous and Contagious: Viral Videos.” It promises—according to a release a friend of AdFreak forwarded to us as—“an unprecedented look at the wildest video clips flooding the Internet and email boxes today.” (Well, in the actual release, that phrase is ALL IN CAPS, but we didn’t want to yell at you.) The content will be constructed of viral videos sent in by viewers. It seems likely this show will have a similar sensibility to America’s Funniest Home Videos, if this clip, featuring two Chinese college students lip-synching to the BackStreet Boys, is any indication. ((It's pictured here and referenced on the Bravo site.) A Bravo exec says, "These viral videos are sometimes funny, sometimes strange, but all somehow represent the eclectic, collective experience of the current state of entertainment these days.” He didn’t mention that it’s also about the cheapest way possible to find content for a TV show.
