Every once in a while, amid all the iPod hype, I read a story about the merits of the subscription, or rental, model in online music, such as this one, in which Yahoo! and the resurrected Napster claim they will eventually triumph over iTunes. Of course, it sounds like a shrill attempt at counterhype, but maybe it isn’t.

Under their model, you rent huge music catalogs, which you can listen to at will, as long as you continue to subscribe to the service.
